ZOOMINAR 0300: “A DISRUPTIVE VISIT TO THE CARDIOLOGIST”

Summary

The cardiologist welcomes the patient and the patient’s disruptive sister. The patient is experiencing fatigue and swelling in the legs and throat. Even things like cooking and vacuuming have become difficult tasks for the patient. At times she feels like she lacks oxygen, and her heart often beats irregularly. The cardiologist orders a stress test and shares with the patient her/his fears. The patient’s sister is continually disruptive, creating a challenge for the interpreter & healthcare professional alike. The healthcare professional reviews certain aspects of the patient’s medical history to detect contributing factors to her/his current problem. The interpreter must deal with complicated medical terminology, a disruptive family member, a crying patient, and unhelpful remarks made by the healthcare professional.
